Our group of 3 had 5 fantastic days on the Ashby Canal aboard a Midland Mallard narrowboat in August 2019. Looking back we agree it was the highlight of our month-long UK/Europe trip. The boat was well equipped, very comfortable and simple to drive – especially on the Ashby, which we specifically selected for it’s lock-free routes. We checked all narrowboat operators when researching our trip and found Midland Mallard true to their word that low prices are their forte: some similar alternatives were almost twice the price!
I whole-heartedly recommend Justin and the crew at Midland Mallard.
This was the first – but certainly won’t be the last.- time that we had taken a narrowboat holiday. We’d talked about doing it for years and finally got round to it. So glad we chose Justin’s boat and the Ashby canal to do it on. Everything went really well from the: very well equipped, clean and well laid out boat, beautiful weather, a lovely pub with excellent food (Rising Sun), a fabulous little steam railway station at Shackerstone and a great canal to navigate for ‘narrow boat virgins’. Finally, Justin was really personable and helpful, easing our first-timers’ nerves and giving us his number in the event of any difficulties – happily, there were none. Looking forward to the next time already ?
